I've been wanting to do pictures of characters in The Nutcracker for a few years now. I had sketches of the Sugar Plum Fairy, but never really liked them until I forced myself to disassociate the characters from the ballet (no ballerina could dance in this costume) and release myself from the constraints of 'traditional' ballet attire. I had a lot of fun doing this piece and am eager to start on my next detailed colored pencil. (Yes, Romeo and Juliet are finally getting their turn).

Prismacolor colored pencils, some Photoshop to adjust the bad lighting in my apartment.

Thank you! It's funny, some of my stuff I like the sketch better after I'm done with the final. Maybe it's something about the spontaneous feeling of a rough sketch that can often get lost in a polished final piece?

yeah, that's why at least for some of the pictures it seems better not to erase when I ink over, it seems more real that way. but even without the spontanaity this is still a really pretty picture
